An article in the Web 2.0 Journal talks about the emergence of a Chief Networking Officer (CNO). Are you thinking, Do we really need a chief for our networking technology? They are actually talking about business networking rather than technology networking which call into question the choice of terms. Chief Social Officer or Chief Community Officer don’t sound much better. What about Chief Human Interactions Officer (CHO)? Where is the Chief Knowledge Officer in all of this? OK, I’m being a little facetious here. Maybe it is because I have not seen this role emerging and I talk to a lot of people. Have you seen it? I’ve seen the social “hat” often given to IT project managers in areas such as collaboration, portals, ECM, and knowledge management. Effectiveness of this approach is spotty.
Now I’m not saying such a role wouldn’t be beneficial. I have talked extensively about building and executing on an enterprise strategy for social computing and part of the problem stems from the basic question of who carries that torch. So, who carries that torch in your enterprise and if no one does, who do you think should, a Chief Networking Officer?
Who has a better title?
