Yesterday I spoke to yet another large federal governmental organization about building a strategy for social software in anticipation of the new presidential administration. This is now an unmistakable trend.
Over the past number of months several of the more leading edge federal departments have called me with the recognition that President Elect Obama’s enormous success with Web 2.0 social community movement will bring new collaboration expectations into the federal government. They wish to anticipate this expectation with the framework of a social application strategy.
A best practice circulating is to build a skeleton social application strategy/plan with several options that an incoming leader (as part of the change of administration) can tailor to make their own and take ownership over.
I applaud those of you who have called me for your proactive action and I hope that I was able to assist you (my ego tells me I have
.
I look forward with anticipation at what the new administration will bring in terms of better collaboration with itself, the fed government as a whole, the general American public, and even the world.

The shift toward a social-centric phenomenon is a step in the right direction. Unmistakable trend is an understatement. Not getting up to speed on what social media can offer has implications firstly communication. Obama presidential campaign identified with first class social media marketing at its best and in its truest form. Did it reach the masses (yes it did), the wider audience knew about him in every channel of communication, people followed him on LinkedIn.
The presidential campain changed the face for future campaigns. Its not only in the Government sector that is recognising this new thinking, I see it also in the private firms Fortune 500 who can take advantage of creating a more holistic collaboration effort to harness the information flow within their organisations. Web 2.0 community is growing and expanding and burgeoning with innovation tools that take the strain out of the everyday toil of work, improviding productivity and adding entertainment value.

Indeed, the limelight captured by the Obama campaign is resonating far beyond government and is highlighting the social Web movement to many parts of the world. Including the business world.
