It is amazing that I still get questions asking if this SOA thing is more than hype or I still hear comments that SOA is dead or has run its course. Much to the contrary, on Gartner’s 2008 Hype Cycle for Application Architecture, SOA has crawled out of the Trough of Disillusionment and is headed for the Plateau of Productivity.
SOA is now in a “reverse dating break-up situation.” Meaning that if SOA isn’t working out for you SOA can say, “It’s not me, its you.” SOA is now proven effective by numerous mainstream organizations but just because SOA isn’t bad doesn’t mean that there isn’t a lot of bad SOA out there. At the Gartner ADI Summit conference in December we will address best practices in executing on an effective SOA effort but we will also talk about how SOA is evolving and enabling new application patters such as Web oriented architecture (WOA), event driven architecture (EDA), and context aware computing.
I will be conducting an audio teleconference briefing (open to the public) on these new SOA patterns and practices from 1pm-2pm EDT on Thursday, November 6, 2008. Teleconference Details: Toll Free Dial-In Number (US & Canada): (800) 374-1407; Conference code: 71994210. Please join us!
We also have a blog that is specific to the ADI Summit event. There are a few good recent posts on how the conference addresses these tough financial times with targeted advice on cost control.
