A Federal Computing Week news piece reports on the FBI starting a Wiki called Bureaupedia for crime-solving information sharing. The piece is very general and it is hard to understand from it what the FBI hopes to achieve with their *pedia. They are joining in on a trend originally popularized by the DIA’s Intellipedia project. Many if not most of the Federal clients I talk to have a *pedia initiative at some stage of development (even if only at the exploration phase). I will be tracking how they progress, best practices, and success rates. Let us know of any government *pedia successes you run across.
In case you haven’t surmised it yet, I’m using *pedia to cover all the different possible variations on enterprise (in this case government enterprise) applications of the on-line encyclopedia mode of information sharing.
