IBM’s IOD – Day Two

October 28th, 2009 · No Comments

Well I have to give IBM more credit for day two.  IOD 2009 opened up with a general session that was filled with customer stories of changed business outcomes, and changes in business processes.  In fact, some of the examples highlighted how “information led-transformation” was transparent since the real focus is not data, or information, [...]

Gartner MDM Summit – Day 2

October 7th, 2009 · No Comments

Great case study for MDM of Product Data by Electronic Arts – complex, well defined problem with a great explanation.  Product master data can certainly be complicated in global settings.
Governance round table was really cool; 14 end users, 2 or 3 very well steeped in experience re master data governance, shared experiences with the wider audience. [...]

October 5th, 2009 · No Comments

Just completed our MDM Tutorial, a pre event session.  Very busy room.  Are all you folks “beginners”?  Pre event survey suggested a more even share of new and experienced users; but the attendance makes me think that actual attendees are very new to MDM.

Economic malaise rolls on along predictable lines…

July 16th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Saw an article in this mornings US print edition of the Financial Times, “Manufacturing outlook grim, says SKF chief”.  What I though interesting was that the CEO, Tom Johnstone, reported its latest quarterly earnings (to June).  I didn’t find the headline interesting, it was something in the details that were shared that was.  Johnstone reported [...]

Economic woes will drive need for MDM

October 9th, 2008 · 1 Comment

My computer dashboard sent me a link to a note on Bloomberg today, entitled, “U.S. Wholesale Stockpiles Rise More Than Forecast”.  The article provided some chilling data that suggests that wholesale inventories across the U.S. were ‘stacking up’ far more than expected in August.  The main reason is that retail demand is falling (as a [...]
