My colleague Guido De Simoni just published Use Enterprise Metadata Management to Extend Information Governance to Analytics.

Enterprise metadata management is key to the efficient and effective reuse of analytics across the organization. Data and analytics leaders must therefore expand metadata initiatives beyond traditional information governance to drive analytics consistency.

Enterprise Metadata Management is not the same as metadata management; nor does EMM mean wall to wall enterprise wide management of metadata.  It simply denotes a program that seeks to align, link and leverage common/shared metadata across multiple initiatives in order to support consistency of shared information assets.  This could be in support of common analytics definitions across multiple data warehouses, lakes or business units; it might be in support of sharing of master data assets across multiple systems or business units etc.  Hence EMM is broader and focused on the linking of what otherwise would be viewed is discrete and silod metadata management efforts.

Doug Laney and colleagues just published The 30 Capabilities That Your Analytics Center of Excellence May Be Lacking.

Yours truly and colleagues just published an updated Chief Data Officers’ Handbook.

This handbook provides data and analytics leaders with a single source for all the key related research needed to build out the office of the chief data officer. Use this as your “first stop” to identify which resources are needed to get your program started.
