New Research Published The New Hype Cycle Y-Axis Measure: Expectations The New Hype Cycle Y-Axis Measure: Expectations

Mark Raskino and Jackie Fenn (hear Jackie speak about her new book, Mastering the Hype Cycle: How to Choose the Right Innovation at the Right Time, co-authored with Mark, on YouTube) just published a real interesting note that provides an update on how to look at, use, and interpret the Gartner Hype Cycle.  The note highlights how the y-axis definition is changing; it used to mean “visibility” but in reality the observations we see suggest that “expectations” is a better way to describe those observations.

The note goes into some detail on how the hype cycle is updated/created and gives some interesting angles, from use of search popularity, news volume analysis, sentiment analysis, financial factors and more.  If you ever watch or report on how technologies, technology applications, or management techniques emerge and mature, the Gartner Hype Cycle is for you!
