Did you see the National Retail Federation (NRF) press release from February 28th, “Retailers Urge House To Reject Union ‘Card-Check’ Legislation”? It would seem that the “nanny state” is at it again. I come from a background where Margaret Thatcher took on Arthur Scargill (president, at the time, of one of the strongest Unions in the UK, the National Union of Mineworkers in the 1980s). It was a painful – but necessary period of British History that still opens up sores across the social fabric of the country. But I come from the side that sees mostly bad things from wonky union leaders. So this press release seems to imply the new US leadership taking a more socialist stance in its support for unions, in that unions, not the government, oversee key processes. Self-governance – isn’t that what many are moving away from with it comes to the financial markets? Why is that good for socialist organizations like unions? Just the first, think end of the wedge…maybe…
