Like every year, we are starting the planning process for our research agendas across Gartner. For those who are not familiar with this term, research agendas contain our high-level plans for the research we are going to conduct in each technology and industry domain we cover across our firm. They are published, usually early in the calendar year, under a title like “Key Issues for…..”.

For our government clients, the research agenda for year 2011 is contained in Key Issues for Government, 2011.

In planning our research agendas for 2012, including the one for Government, we use a variety of data points, such as inquiries from our clients, interactions during various Gartner events, readership of our research notes on gartner.com, the dialogue supported via multiple social media, as well as online surveys that we offer to our clients and non-clients.

My colleague Massimiliano Claps, who is the government research agenda manager for Gartner, would like to offer this blog’s readers the opportunity of influencing our planning process by responding to this online survey, which asks few very simple questions and demographic details for analysis purposes.

Thank you very much in advance for your input.

The original deadline of September 24th has been extended to today, October 1st. So if you have not done so already, please take the survey.

All it takes is to respond to this online survey, which asks three very simple questions:

What are your top three technology issues for 2011?

What are your top three IT management issues for 2011?

What are the top three challenges for IT that you foresee for the next 3 to 5 years?

You can find a permanent link to the survey also on the bottom left hand side of this page

Thank you in advance for your help

Like every year, we are starting the planning process for our research agendas across Gartner. For those who are not familiar with this term, research agendas contain our high-level plans for the research we are going to conduct in each technology and industry domain we cover across our firm. They are published, usually early in the calendar year, under a title like “Key Issues for…..”.

For our government clients, the research agenda for year 2010 is contained in Key Issues for Government, 2010. Later in the year, we also published Key Issues for Defense and Intelligence, 2010, as a complement to out existing agenda.

In planning our research agendas for 2011, including the one for Government, we use a variety of data points, such as inquiries from our clients, interactions during various Gartner events, readership of our research notes on gartner.com, the dialogue supported via multiple social media, as well as online surveys that we offer to our clients and non-clients.

Since this particular blog has a fairly good readership, both in size and quality of audience. I would like to offer readers the opportunity of influencing our planning process in either or both the following ways:

by responding to this online survey, which asks three very simple questions and few demographic details for analysis purposes;

by just commenting this post with ideas about what we should be covering, what we should stop researching about, and how do you feel we could develop research material that is relevant and compelling for you as individuals as well as for your organizations.

This time we have started the planning process a couple of months earlier, in order to be able to publish our research agenda for 2011 by the end of this year.

Thank you very much in advance for your input.

The Gartner Government research team is deeply involved with U.S. and global government agencies to help them navigate through the current economic turmoil, by advising on cost optimization, both within IT departments and leveraging IT systems to optimize overall program/department expenses. To further improve our ability to provide in-depth advice, we are conducting a brief survey that investigates strategic and tactical cost optimization actions that have been implemented (or are planned to be implemented) by federal, state and local government agencies, as well as what the results and major barriers have been so far in deploying those actions.

The survey can be found here, and takes 10-15 minutes to complete.

As a token of our appreciation, if you qualify for and complete the questionnaire, you will receive a copy of the final Research Study once it has been completed.

Please note that all information you provide will be used for research purposes only. None of your responses will be identified with your name or your organization’s name without your permission.

Please also make sure you answer with reference only to budgets your office controls (e.g., statewide or specific department, agency, bureau, or office) not for non-IT departmental budgets controlled by line-of-business/program executives.

We look forward to your feedback!

We are looking for specific areas of concern for government clients around the world, and we would like to ask both government clients and non-clients three simple questions:
