SXSW, Day One Preview

by Allen Weiner  |  March 12, 2010  |  Comments Off

I think I have the hang of it. This is my second SXSW and I did my best to prep in terms of which sessions to attend, which trade show booths I want to attend, which movies I want to see and which parties I want to crash. Those who know me will attest that […]

Reporting from SXSW

by Allen Weiner  |  March 8, 2010  |  Comments Off

It’s with great excitement that I will be reporting/blogging/video-ing/Tweeting, etc… from South By Southwest (SXSW) or, as we Austinites say, “South by.” The show is in three sections: interactive, film and music. The first several days are interactive (think a cooler version of Internet World in its earliest San Jose days) and the last several […]

uStream.TV at SXSW

by Allen Weiner  |  March 18, 2009  |  1 Comment

We made our way over to The Belmont, uStream.TV’s headquarters for SXSW. Eager to see just how uStream put together a high-quality live streamcast, I captured the configuration (somewhat) in the video below. There’s an s-Video out from the Panasonic HD camera to the broadcast mixer and an audio out from the camera to the […]

SXSW Interactive Comes to a Close

by Allen Weiner  |  March 17, 2009  |  Comments Off

After two-plus days of panels, meeting and briefings (as well as just bathing in the spirit and energy at SXSW), the interactive (web/internet) portion of the show ends and the music takes center stage. Film continues throughout the week with a mix of indie films, short films and some world feature film premieres. Spike Lee’s […]

After arriving on the third full day of SXSW in Austin, I was quick to get the lay of the land and begin meeting some of the hot, entrepreneurial companies at the show. The show includes an interactive portion (through Tuesday), film (all week long) and music (all week, but picks up after Tuesday). The […]

Headed for South by Southwest (SXSW)

by Allen Weiner  |  February 24, 2009  |  Comments Off

As a part-time resident of Austin, Texas and music/movie/interactive sort of guy, it’s fairly obvious I will be at SXSW. It will be my first time at this megaevent, so as a conference veteran, I know somewhat to expect, but in Austin “weird happens” (which is why we love it), so it could hold many […]

The Boundaries of Social Interaction

by Allen Weiner  |  October 13, 2008  |  1 Comment

One of the good things about living part time in Austin, Texas, is the number of Web 2.0 companies (not to mention Web 1.0) companies in the area and the entrepreneurial energy that permeates the tech community. I had the opportunity to visit one prominent Web 2.0 company, Pluck, last week. Pluck is a leader […]

Another Texas Newspaper Rises To The Occasion

by Allen Weiner  |  September 15, 2008  |  Comments Off

Here’s a clip from The Statesman, the Cox-owned (for now) newspaper in Austin. They are a great example of a daily that uses all the Web 2.0 weapons available to create reader engagement. The paper’s use of Twitter to track Ike is a textbook example others could follow.
