Read carefully: Google is working with a company that has new scanning technology that offers POD in a high quality. Google is smart enough to use state of the art technology as opposed to some of the offshore stuff that renders horrible results.Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see what these "books" look like once they have to be mass produced.

How can Google possibly re-print the books they have scanned? The quality is really quite bad. There are pages missing, scanner operators hands covering text, pages folded over etc.

Google's purchase of ReCaptcha is brought on by the poor job of both digitizing and OCRing the books that they have scanned. Had they taken the time to do it right the first time...

I buy my books from http://www.kirtasbooks.com, their image quality is superb, and their Digitize on Demand and Print on Demand service is the best. They only have 800K books now, but I am sure they will move to the front of the pack based on quality alone.
