CES Day 2: Yahoo!’s Connected TV Looks Strong

by Allen Weiner  |  January 9, 2009  |  1 Comment

I won’t go into too much detail here, but my colleagues Andrew Frank and Mike McGuire and I saw a demo of Yahoo!’s new Connected TV widget-based service, and it was impressive. We will provide more insights in subsequent company research reports, but needless to say, Yahoo! has the first mover advantage when it comes to providing a platform for compelling applications to future IP-connected TVs. Could this be what gets Yahoo! back to its earlier iconic status? How will Google and Microsoft respond? What happens to all those folks who recently bought HDTVs that do not have IP connectivity? All interesting questions that bear close watching.

In addition, we had a chance to meet with Microsoft, and while we waited for our meeting to start, e shot a clip of Microsoft Surface. That’s Mike McGuire giving the tour.
